Quantum Spatial to Highlight eGIS and LiDAR Projects at 2019 Esri Federal GIS Conference

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Jan. 23, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Quantum Spatial, Inc. (QSI), the nation’s largest independent geospatial analytics firm, will showcase a number of innovative projects that it is doing with government agencies at the 2019 Esri Federal GIS Conference, taking place January 29-30 in Washington, D.C. QSI will feature work it has done with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), as well as its collaboration with Riegl and Esri for the LiDAR Management and Analytics Processing (LMAP) initiative.

“QSI has a long, successful history of working with federal government agencies that are seeking actionable intelligence and geospatial analytics,” said Cherie Jarvis, QSI's eGIS Practice Lead. “With our rich combination of advanced imaging and remote sensing technologies, backed by powerful modeling, visualization and GIS tools, and agile development approach, QSI has been able to quickly provide solutions that deliver instant value to our government clients.”

At Booth #922, attendees can learn how QSI's vast GIS expertise, unique blend of skills and agile methodology contributed to projects, such as:

  • BLM – QSI is currently developing a GIS-based decision support tool to model locations of cultural resources, as well as new GIS datasets and applications to gain efficiencies in the application to drill and grazing allotment renewal processes, using Esri technology.
  • BOEM – QSI’s decision support tool for Analyzing Sea Turtle Entrainment Risk (ASTER) is helping guide mitigation planning decisions and reducing incidental takes of sea turtles (entrainment) during dredging operations within state and federal marine mineral resource areas of the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. In addition, QSI’s Marine Minerals Information Systems (MMIS) and associated Map Viewer supports National OCS Sand/Sediment Inventory and provides valuable information to federal, state and local governments related to renourishing the coasts after major storms. In a separate project, QSI also is working with BOEM to migrate data from an ESRI geodatabase to a non-spatial Oracle database to manage the location of offshore drilling leases.
  • NOAA – QSI recently completed phase one of the development of a decision support tool for geospatial data management and reporting of Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) in relation to sand resources on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). During this first phase, QSI focused on classifying geomorphologic features from existing data, integrating them with associated fish habitat data and biota, and developed extensive software requirements specifications for the tool to be used within the existing BOEM MMIS framework. Phase two of the project is expected to start later this year.
  • NAVFAC –Quantum Spatial, as part of a joint venture (NAVGeo), is providing GIS support to NAVFAC Atlantic, with projects that include LiDAR and imagery acquisition, GIS database management, tool development and data scanning/archiving.
  • LMAP – QSI developed a Quick Look Viewer (QLV) for topobathy LiDAR acquisition in partnership with Riegl. The tool is designed to assess various aspects of data collection, including quality, coverage, overlap and supporting information, such as water quality from turbidity sensors. QSI is leveraging LMAP to develop new workflows and Esri web applications that provide near real-time information for decision support about topobathy acquisition projects.
