Immersive Experience Highlights PolygonVR Platform and Warehouse Scale Tracking
Los Angeles, CA (VRLA) – May 4, 2018 - OptiTrack has teamed with Neurogaming - a collaboration between award-winning online game developer Wargaming and VR incubator VRTech Group - to bring VRLA 2018 attendees an untethered, networked multiplayer first-person VR shooter with full body tracking. The next evolution in location-based entertainment, the experience will showcase Neurogaming's PolygonVR platform, which leverages OptiTrack Active technology for positional tracking, and command a 12m x 12m playable footprint in the Los Angeles Convention Center South Hall. Up to four participants will simultaneously play each other, against up to 12 participants in New York, Amsterdam and Moscow.
“All signs are pointing to location-based VR being the mainstream tipping point for VR; it’s highly accessible, and most experiences are unlike anything you could get close to achieving in-home, even for early adopters with the requisite gear and computing power,” said OptiTrack Chief Strategy Officer Brian Nilles. “The PolygonVR platform is a big step forward for LBE and it’s networked PvP capability, and we’re thrilled to help the Neurogaming team realize their vision with our precision tracking systems.”
"Our vision is to make the bespoke Oasis from ‘Ready Player One,’ an always-on social hub open for players from over the world to jump in anytime and go on highly immersive VR adventures, a reality," said Alex Morozov, Neurogaming Chief Marketing Officer. "PolygonVR platform is the stepping stone in this process thanks to its telepresent multiplayer functionality, second screen support and integrated streaming and media features."
OptiTrack’s strobeless Slim 13E active tracking cameras, active LED markers and Motive software provide the low latency 6 DoF tracking required to execute large scale location-based entertainment. The all-in-one tracking solution is also facilitating tracking for Striker VR weapons, Oculus Rift HMDs tracking as well as full body skeletal tracking so that participants can view each other in the experience, whether in the same arena - or networked and located thousands of miles away. The experience is powered by MSI VR One backpack PCs and run through Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.
Together with Exit Reality, Neurogaming is showcasing its full-breadth of capabilities including customized form factors and newly developed content. At VRLA they’re installing a massive, completely wireless 36’ x 36’ PolygonVR arena featuring haptic controllers and full-body tracking. Attendees will have the chance to be part of an elite squad tasked with completing a top-secret mission in Blackout, a full-immersion, sci-fi shooter game – and they’ll be joined by players from New York, Amsterdam and Moscow. They will also be able to experience brand new content being unveiled at VRLA for the very first time.
The exhibit will also feature an assortment of other VR setups including a multiplayer portal where up to 4 players will be able to play World of Tanks – the MMO game has over 150 million players worldwide and will now be available in VR exclusively through Exit Reality. Also, on display will be a VR cube where individuals can test out industrial training applications – experiencing first-hand how VR can be used to accelerate training and reduce risk in a variety of fields ranging from technical engineering to customer service.
