SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
GAME DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE—8th Wall today announced the release of glTF Viewer, the first 3D file viewing app of its kind, at the
2018 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. For the first time, designers and creators can preview glTF 2.0 files and other 3D file formats in an AR setting. Users can use the app to send their 3D file creations as a link to anyone, who can immediately view those models in 3D, interact with them in physical space and provide feedback. The company also released an update to its flagship XR platform, the world's first AR platform that works on any iOS and Android phone while integrating seamlessly with ARKit and ARCore.
The 8th Wall glTF viewer can shorten the collaboration loop between artists, product owners, product managers, engineers and other stakeholders by providing a quick and easy way to gather feedback on working 3D files. The features of this app will also allow today's new open standard 3D format to be viewable on any mobile phone.
8th Wall’s XR Release 6 updates include remote development which allows developers to preview their AR app experience as it will appear on phones without needing to recompile and redeploy the app to mobile devices. With this feature, 8th Wall is saving developers hours per interaction developed. This latest XR version also includes support for landscape-mode applications, hit tests for feature points, tracking confidence APIs, and the ability to run 8th Wall apps on the Epson Moverio BT-300 (in 2D Mode), the first smart glasses to run 8th Wall apps.
“8th Wall is committed to giving developers more flexibility and tools to build rich AR experiences,” said Erik Murphy-Chutorian, CEO and founder at 8th Wall. “We build all our solutions with direct developer feedback in mind. We are thrilled that glTF Viewer and XR Release 6 are helping AR developers build faster than ever before.”
Developers can sign up and download 8th Wall platform tools today from 8th Wall's website. The glTF Viewer is available for both Android and iOS. 8th Wall will be showcasing both tools at booth #1909 at GDC.
