USGIF Accepting Applications for 2017 Scholarship Program

Foundation to award students for academic GEOINT achievements

Herndon, Virginia, Jan. 30, 2017 — The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) is now accepting applications for its 2017 Scholarship Program. The program provides promising students pursuing degrees in the geospatial sciences or a related field with scholarship funds to help further their educations and advance the geospatial intelligence tradecraft.

Since 2004 when the program began, USGIF has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 200 students.

"I'm honored to be able to work with USGIF to help award these scholarships to the outstanding students coming up in our profession,” said Neil Billings, chair of the USGIF Scholarship Subcommittee. “Every year, the subcommittee is struck by the quality of these young innovators and by the research they are doing to advance our tradecraft.”

Scholarship applications can be found at USGIF’s website and are due no later than May 15. Graduating high school seniors, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students studying geospatial intelligence, geography, political science, computer science, biology, anthropology, and any other fields in the natural and social sciences are encouraged to apply for a USGIF scholarship.

USGIF is also accepting applications for the $10,000 Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing Applications, which the Foundation offers in partnership with Riverside Research—a nonprofit company primarily serving the defense and intelligence communities. The Ken Miller scholarship debuted in 2016 and annually awards one master’s degree student who is currently in or planning to enter the defense or intelligence community.
