PISCATAWAY, N.J. & SINGAPORE — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 19, 2016 — The MIPI® Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, today announced the 2016 MIPI Alliance Membership Award winners. The awards ceremony was held during a member meeting luncheon at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore.
“MIPI Alliance is continually developing forward-thinking specifications that address requirements for hardware and software integration in mobile, IoT, automotive and other areas. We rely on our members to help identify industry needs, craft the specifications and drive their adoption in the market,” said Peter Lefkin, managing director of MIPI Alliance. “It is important we pause to honor those who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to our efforts and we congratulate the award recipients for the well-deserved recognition. We also want to thank all of our members for their ongoing participation in MIPI Alliance work.”
The MIPI Alliance Membership Awards Program is offered annually to recognize outstanding contributions and achievements by individual and corporate members. MIPI Alliance members submit nominations to an awards and recognition committee appointed by the board of directors and tasked with selecting the award winners.
This year’s program honored four nominees. Awards were given in three categories: Lifetime Achievement, Corporate and Working Group Leadership.
The MIPI Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has participated in MIPI Alliance efforts for at least seven years and provided significant contributions or leadership to a working group, the board, or other MIPI Alliance entities. The 2016 recipient is Gary Cooper of Texas Instruments. The award was presented to him in recognition of the outstanding commitment, service and leadership he has given to the MIPI Alliance Debug Working Group.
“We are indebted to Gary for his extraordinary efforts over the years to promote and guide the development of MIPI Alliance debug specifications, especially the MIPI Gigabit Debug family of specifications that give silicon chip vendors and OEMs standardized methods for debugging mobile terminals, mobile-influenced devices and IoT-connected products,” Lefkin said. “Gary is an example to us all for his advocacy on behalf of the industry and MIPI efforts, his tireless stewardship of the standardization process, and dedication to bringing companies together to craft interfaces that will help deliver more robust, high-performing products to their customers.”
The Corporate Award was presented to Synopsys, Inc. for providing more than 10 years of outstanding corporate leadership to MIPI Alliance. The company was recently appointed to the MIPI Board of Directors as a Promoter member and has participated in numerous MIPI Alliance working groups helping to define specifications for a wide range of interface needs in mobile devices. Synopsys has also participated in collaborative efforts with external standards groups to expand the applicability of MIPI Alliance specifications to new markets.
The Working Group Leadership Award is presented to a leader within a working group in recognition of significant contributions to the development and publication of a MIPI specification. This year two individuals were recognized for their efforts. Paul Kimelman of NXP Semiconductors received the award for his exemplary leadership and dedication to the development of MIPI I3CSM. George Wiley of Qualcomm Technologies received the award in recognition of his significant contributions and dedication to the MIPI C-PHYSM.
