Altair CAT-1 Chipset Powers AT&T-Certified Wistron NeWeb (WNC) Module, Offering Upgradability to CAT-M1

Altair-based IoT Module from WNC Provides Future-Focused Capabilities for IoT

HOD HASHARON, Israel, June 29, 2016 — (PRNewswire) —

Altair Semiconductor chipsets will power a new set of LTE modules that will help businesses lower costs and improve device performance for a broad range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Altair, a leading provider of LTE chipsets, announced that its FourGee-1160 chipset powers the M14A2A IoT module manufactured by Wistron NeWeb Corp. (WNC) that is certified to run on AT&T's 4G LTE network.

The module supports LTE Cat-1 connectivity and will support the newer Cat-M1 standard via a Firmware Over The Air (FoTA) upgrade. The CAT-M1 standard is designed to boost module performance for IoT applications, offering enhanced coverage and extended battery life.

"This certification will pave the way to providing low-cost and efficient LTE connectivity for a range of industrial and consumer IoT applications," said Cameron Coursey, Vice President of Product Development, Internet of Things Solutions, AT&T. "The Altair FourGee-1160, with its upgradable capabilities, is an excellent vehicle for moving to CAT-M1 networks."

"We are delighted to be working with AT&T to play a significant role in building the IoT ecosystem through the provision of low-powered, cost efficient and upgradable solutions," said Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Altair.

The FourGee-1160 is an industry leader in LTE CAT-1 solutions for power consumption and features, and will be the first to offer upgradability to CAT-M1. The chipset is designed in an array of industrial and consumer modules and is shipping commercially in numerous markets including the US, Japan and Korea.
