From Paris to Beijing, the Delta Green Building Exhibition is Launched at Tsinghua University

SHANGHAI, June 17, 2016 — (PRNewswire) — In response to global efforts toward carbon emissions reduction, the Delta Green Building Exhibition, first held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France, during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), was launched on June 14th in Building A, Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, Beijing, Mainland China, to share the "Building Harmony with Nature" concept of green buildings and the innovative technologies that foster energy conservation. Since 2006, Delta has built, on its own or jointly with partners, 22 green buildings around the world. The Exhibition, combining its international experience and localized practices in green buildings, responds to the Chinese government's proactive effort in setting a target of 60%~65% domestic CO2 emissions reduction by 2030 (2005 as base year).

Mr. Bruce C.H. Cheng, founder and honorary chairman of the Delta Group, said at the press conference: "It is an honor to bring the exhibition that was launched during COP21 in Paris last year to Tsinghua University. In its '13th 5-year Plan,' Mainland China envisions a meaningful increase in energy efficiency in buildings and the development of a complete value chain in green buildings, with the ultimate goal of reducing energy consumption per unit of GDP by 15% during such period of time. In response to the low-carbon megatrend following the Paris Agreement, enterprises should assume their responsibilities accordingly. Since 2006, Delta has implemented green building concepts to design and constructed its own offices and factories as well as buildings it donated, given the significant contribution to climate change mitigation from such approach. We have accumulated abundant experience in the past decade, and we will continue to collaborate with partners, such as the China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) to further advance the green building concept, from talent cultivation to the eventual realization of green building projects."

Mr. Shi Dinghuan, former State Department counsellor and chairman of the CRES, highlighted: "Delta has sponsored the International Solar Building Design Competition for 10 years and turned winning projects into reality, casting profound influence on the promotion of green buildings. In these 10 years, the competition has gradually established itself as a leading and comprehensive platform in Mainland China for the development of the green building industry. The winning projects have been implemented in quake-stricken Sichuan, including the Delta Sunshine Elementary School in Mianyang and the Delta Sunshine Junior High School in Ya'an. The Low Carbon Emissions Residence in Wujiang, Jiangsu, and the Low Energy-Consumption Housing for Farmers in Qinghai, supported by the Qinghai government, are also based on winning projects. These cases set a remarkable example, allowing people to experience themselves the benefits of green buildings."

Mr. Yancey Hai, chairman of Delta Electronics, Inc., said: "177 countries have signed the Paris Agreement and committed efforts to keep the rise of global temperature below 2°C. Delta continues to respond to public concerns over climate change from three major fronts: The development of energy-saving technologies, energy conservation in its own factories, and the construction and promotion of green buildings. Thus, we have reduced the electricity intensity of our factories by 50% during a 5-year period (2009~2014) and a new target has been announced last year to reduce an additional 30% in electricity intensity by 2020 (2014 as base year), with such initiative expanded beyond our factories to our offices and data centers around the world."

Ms. Shan-Shan Guo, chief planner of the exhibition and Executive Director of the Delta Foundation remarked: "From the Grand Palais in Paris to the campus of Tsinghua in Beijing, the Delta Green Building Exhibition spans the globe, showing the 'Building Harmony with Nature' concept of green buildings to the public. The exhibition integrates humanistic, environmental, and architectural elements, with highlights on a number of subjects, including the "Vertical Village" -- Low Carbon Emissions Residence in Wujiang, which is inspired by traditional 'White Walls, Black Tiles' portrayed by Wu Guanzhong, a contemporary Chinese artist, and the Low Energy-Consumption Housing for Farmers in Qinghai project featuring traditional rammed earth construction commonly used by local famers and herdsmen. The rich presentation showcases actual applications of green buildings in urban housing, rural architecture, and clean campus with an aim of attracting more attention on green buildings from the public and thus, engaging them to jointly create a smart green life."

The Delta Green Building Exhibition, located at the atrium of Building A, Academy of Arts and Design in Tsinghua University, is open to the public from June 14 to 26, 2016. A speech on green buildings is scheduled for the morning of June 16 at 3F of Building A, where Mr. Joshua J. Pan, founder and chairman of J. J. Pan and Partners, will shed light on how to find a way to live with nature in harmony. Delta aspires to share with the public "The Beauty of Architecture" and "The Greenness of Energy Conservation", to join forces toward climate change mitigation and the advancement of green buildings.
