Leica Geosystems delivers 10th DMC III aerial camera Latest delivery of DMC III to be used in China for smart city planning

(Heerbrugg, Switzerland/Beijing, China, 26 April 2016) – BJ Open Tide BoGuan IT Co.LTD, an aerial mapping firm located in Beijing, China, has taken delivery of China’s 10th Leica DMC III airborne digital camera.

Specialising in smart city planning, the DMC III, providing the world’s most efficient coverage performance in a single frame sensor, will help the firm strategically develop multiple deliverables, such as orthophotos, digital surface models and 3D building meshes, for clients while expanding business into new areas, like corridor mapping and environmental applications, not previously accessible.

Updating for more value

BJ Open Tide BoGuan IT Co.LTD selected the DMC III as part of Leica Geosystems’ RealCity airborne mapping solution. Combining multiple DMC III airborne cameras with the comprehensive suite of HxMap, advanced 2D and 3D post-processing software, the firm will now save time and costs using one simple user interface to produce accurate and current deliverables. With the common sensor platform of HxMap, workflows can now be streamlined for all Leica Geosystems sensors.

"We are excited about this RealCity solution, since it delivers not only superb image quality and accuracy but high data acquisition efficiency,” said a company spokesperson. "China's land and cityscape is changing so fast, which drives our need for fast updates. Leica's RealCity urban mapping solution uniquely allows us to combine the most suitable camera technology for the task with a unique high performance workflow to create geospatial base layers in 2D and 3D for smart city applications. In addition, its vertical focus and flexibility to expand into other business areas has convinced us the DMC III is the right choice."

Smart city solution
As part of the RealCity solution in China, the DMC III combines a large single frame camera with efficient workflow. Based on a new CMOS sensor engineered for airborne applications, this airborne camera provides high image quality with almost zero blooming.

HxMap provides a highly productive processing environment with capabilities such as atmospheric correction, haze removal and block wide colour balance, which help ensure high radiometric image quality. This software has one easy-to-learn user interface capable of producing any known airborne data product.

"This purchase is indicative of how our constant innovation pays off,” said Ruedi Wagner, vice-president for airborne imaging at Leica Geosystems. "We deliver airborne solutions to North America, Europe and Asia. Irrespective of the regional preferences and project requirements, users are embracing the unique accuracy, quality and performance delivered by the DMC III and the multi-sensor high-performance processing environment of HxMap. We recognise our customers’ need for a trusted, experienced and reliable technology partner, and we’re here to meet that need."
