Toshiba’s 12Gbit/s SAS SSD Powers Dell’s Fastest SAS-Based Servers

Dell is the first to ship servers using Toshiba’s PX04S Series 12Gbit/s SAS SSD

IRVINE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 17, 2016 — Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, announces its latest collaboration with Dell, the first global server original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to use Toshiba’s PX04S solid state drives (SSDs). With this family of drives, Dell now offers SAS-based servers with the fastest random read enterprise SSDs1 in today’s market. Dell PowerEdge R730 servers using a single PX04S drive demonstrate 340K random read IOPS2, making them Dell’s fastest SAS-based servers available.

The 12Gbit/s3 SAS PX04S Series is available in a full lineup of models to meet every endurance and application workload requirement – including high endurance, mainstream and read-intensive options – and capacities up to 4TB4 with excellent all-around performance and encryption options. The PX04S Series features a Toshiba-developed controller and Toshiba-developed NAND to provide a vertically integrated SSD, providing effective system and application performance in servers and storage.

“With the fastest random read SAS SSDs available, Toshiba’s PX04S SSDs offer excellent performance and value for Dell PowerEdge server customers. Toshiba has been a long-time and trusted supplier to Dell for SAS SSDs,” said Brian Payne, executive director of Dell PowerEdge product management.

“With a long-time supplier relationship, we understand Dell’s commitment to high performance for their customers,” said Steve Fingerhut, senior vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., Storage Products. “We’re proud to provide this storage option for Dell’s PowerEdge servers, and the PX04S Series was a natural fit for Dell’s emphasis on quality and reliability.”

The PX04S Series is available today. For more information on Toshiba’s line of industry-leading SSDs and HDDs, visit http://toshiba.semicon-storage.com/us/product/storage-products.html. 1 Random Read 4KB (IOPS) speed based on published web specs as of January 29, 2016.

2 IOMeter demo was shown at Dell World 2015 using the PX04S SSD with firmware for Dell.

3 Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.

4 Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1TB = 230 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
