Registration Now Open Jan 28, 2016 -- Join the members of the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) when they host the second annual BSSC Colloquium on “Seismic Design Update 2016: An Interactive Exploration of the 2020 NEHRP Provisions and Project 17 Issues,” Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the Embassy Suites San Francisco Airport–Waterfront in Burlingame, California. Earn continuing education units (CEUs) while learning the latest about what is intended for the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) 2020 NEHRP Recommended Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures, and for Project 17, Development of Next-Generation Seismic Design Maps. The BSSC Colloquium also will offer architects and engineers a streamlined opportunity to grasp the changes in the 2015 Provisions, why they occurred and how they will affect design and construction going forward, as well as the latest developments in Project 17. See the full agenda and list of distinguished speakers. This year’s Colloquium also will feature a two-hour workshop on “Public Input on Issues for The 2020 NEHRP Provisions.” David R. Bonneville, senior principal of Degenkolb Engineers and chair of the Provisions Update Committee (PUC), will facilitate an audience-based, open discussion on topics and issues that should be considered by the Provisions Update Committee in the 2020 Provisions cycle. Subject experts from both the public and private sectors—all active participants in the NEHRP Provisions update process and Project 17—will make up this year’s program. View the full agenda. The course will offer 6.0 continuing education units (CEUs) (approval is pending from The American Institute of Architects for AIA learning units). The BSSC Colloquium will run from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm, and includes lunch. The March 8 Colloquium will be preceded by the BSSC Annual Meeting in the morning and followed by a PUC meeting on March 9, and a Project 17 Committee meeting on March 10. About the NEHRP Recommended Provisions Under the sponsorship of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), BSSC administers an ongoing consensus-based process of updating and maintaining the NEHRP Recommended Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures. The NEHRP Recommended Provisions and its Commentary embody the state-of-knowledge criteria for design and construction of new buildings subject to earthquake hazards. The new knowledge and technologies contained in this resource document are diffused into the model building codes developed by the International Code Council (ICC) and several national standards, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) ASCE/SEI-7 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures.
