Jesuit High School Chapel Receives 2015 Regional Recognition Award from AIA Central Valley

Jesuit High School’s chapel is recognized for its architectural quality

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The American Institute of Architects Central Valley chapter has awarded Jesuit High School’s Chapel of the North American Martyrs the award for Regional Recognition in 2015. The award for Regional Recognition distinguishes completed projects in the capital region that represent a regional character, iconic presence and timeless expression of architectural quality. Projects may be from any past or present time period and can be original construction, reconstruction or restoration.

The chapel, a new LEED Silver building on the campus of Jesuit High School in Carmichael, Calif., has been praised for its combination of drama of angular exterior geometries and gently curved interior walls, and for serving as a symbolic entrance to the campus.

Craig Hodgetts, FAIA, founding principal and creative director of Hodgetts + Fung Architecture and Design studio, will accept the award at the annual AIA Central Valley Design Awards ceremony on October 23, 2015 in the Friedman Court of the Crocker Art Museum. Hodgetts is the keynote speaker at the ceremony.

In addition to the Regional Recognition award, architecture firms will receive recognition for their outstanding contributions in design excellence at three levels: honor, merit and citation. Additional awards to be bestowed include: Divine Detail and Excellence in Custom Residential Design. The winning projects were selected by a peer jury from the Board of Directors of AIA Charlotte, North Carolina. Jury Chair, John Paquin, AIA of ZAPATA, Inc., will travel to Sacramento to personally present the awards.
