IMAGINiT Technologies Extends Reality Capture Services with Pix4D Partnership

Best in Class Software Creates 2D and 3D models from Aerial Images Acquired by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 16, 2015Rand Worldwide (OTCBB: RWWI), a global leader in providing technology solutions to organizations with engineering design and information technology requirements, announces that its IMAGINiT Technologies division is partnering with Pix4D, leading developers of 2D and 3D mapping and modeling software. This collaboration will help architectural, civil and manufacturing design engineers extract imagery taken from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and convert it into usable 2D and 3D models.

“Combining our high definition scanning expertise with our own software such as Scan to BIM, along with hardware and software from our partners Pix4D, Autodesk and Leica Geosystems, enables our Reality Capture Services team to cover this evolving design approach from every angle,” says Tim Johnson, senior vice president, IMAGINiT Technologies. “Through our partnership with Pix4D, we can now offer software that allows our customers more flexibility in how they use data captured by UAVs. Additionally, the software streamlines the workflow and reduces processing time to generate a usable point cloud from this aerial capture option.”

IMAGINiT’s multidisciplinary Reality Capture Services team helps customers through the entire reality capture process. Using a proof of concept approach, IMAGINiT experts work with clients to determine the level of accuracy required and, based on that, recommend reality capture technology such as 3D laser scanning, mobile and aerial LIDAR, or photogrammetry. The addition of Pix4Dmapper offers the ability to utilize data from a wide variety of UAV platforms to create a variety of terrain and structure models. IMAGINiT can assist in recommending the best hardware to collect the data and ensure efficient integration with the customers’ workflows. IMAGINiT often walks customers through this process on a live project, allowing for over the shoulder mentoring along the way.

UAV Capture Saves Time

Using Pix4Dmapper, engineers and designers can capture enough data to build a point cloud in approximately 15 minutes of flight time and one hour of processing time. Being able to accurately capture existing conditions through aerial photogrammetry:

  • Eliminates the need for repeated site visits
  • Captures data on structures without disrupting the current occupants
  • Uses identifiable features and GPS location to calculate distances necessary to begin building a point cloud, reducing the need for hand measurements and calculations

"Pix4D is pleased to welcome IMAGINiT as a value-added reseller of Pix4Dmapper products in the USA,” says Antoine Martin, business manager, US, Pix4D. “The architecture, engineering, and construction markets will benefit from valuable features such as high speed image processing and automated photogrammetric tools that capture raw data from a variety of sensors including drones.”

Availability and Free Live Demonstration

Attend a live webcast on July 17 at 1 PM Eastern to learn more about how Pix4Dmapper software dramatically improves the ability of architectural, civil and manufacturing design engineers to use aerial imagery captured by UAVs. During this presentation, Dan Chapek, manager, reality capture services, IMAGINiT, and Antoine Martin, business manager, Pix4D, US, will demonstrate Pix4Dmapper and answer questions. Attendance is free, but advanced registration is required.
