Blue Marble to Conduct Global Mapper Workshop at Association of American Geographers Annual Meeting

Hallowell, Maine–April 14, 2015. Blue Marble Geographics  (www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a workshop at the Association of American Geographers (AAG) Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. The workshop, entitled “LiDAR Processing and Terrain Analysis in Global Mapper”, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Blue Marble's geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as government and university organizations.

As one of the largest geographic conferences in the world, the AAG Annual Meeting and Exhibition will host as many as 7,000 geographers, GIS specialists, and environmental scientists from around the world. It offers a forum for industry leaders to showcase the most recent trends in geographic technologies and ideas that impact business, government, and academia.

The Global Mapper workshop will provide an opportunity for AAG delegates to learn about some of the latest developments that have been integrated into the Global Mapper software platform, including the powerful LiDAR Module. Using real-world scenarios, attendees will learn how Global Mapper can be used to import, edit, filter, and crop LiDAR point cloud data. The workshop will also include instruction on the process for transforming LiDAR data into a terrain model and will showcase several examples of the analysis tools that can be applied to this 3D data. Attendees will be introduced to Global Mapper’s feature extraction capability, in which 3D buildings and trees are automatically created from LiDAR data.

“We are very excited to be attending the AAG meeting again this year and to be showcasing Global Mapper as a truly affordable GIS solution” stated Danielle Caron, Senior Account Manager at Blue Marble Geographics. “The two-hour workshop will offer the chance for attendees to see Global Mapper in action and to gain some insight into how much functionality is available in this remarkable software.”
