MarkForged Unveils New Cloud-based Software at CES 2015

World's first 3D printer capable of printing in continuous reinforcing fiber gives innovators independence from traditional machining processes

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  Continuing to expand the appeal of the world's only continuous composite 3D printer, MarkForged™ ( http://www.markforged.com) today unveiled cloud-based 3D printing at the 2015 International CES. The Mark One Composite 3D Printer™ is now available with powerful, easy-to-use cloud-based collaborative software that allows teams to access, change and print models from any device that runs Google's Chrome Browser.

"We thought we'd show part of the potential of the cloud today by rolling out a cool new capability as we unveil our software," said Greg Mark, founder and CEO of MarkForged. "As of today, the Mark One supports embedding of functional electronics and metal structures inside our continuous composite 3D printed parts. Your printer will notify you – via the cloud - when it is time to place your inserts."

The Mark One prints outer contours and curves in engineering nylon and fills each part with close-packed reinforcement in continuous carbon fiber, Kevlar or fiberglass. The printer actively switches between two nozzles during a print, creating fiber-reinforced plastic parts with a strength-to-weight ratio better than aluminum. The print bed clicks into place with 10 micron accuracy between operations to facilitate multi-step processes like insert embedding. To view a video showcasing how the Mark One works click here.

The Mark One is currently available for purchase through an extensive network of value-added reseller partners and at www.markforged.com.

The printers, software and example composite parts embedding RFID modules, pressure sensors and metal bearings will be on display today during CES at the MarkForged booth, number 71524, in the Tech West Sands Expo.

About MarkForged
MarkForged's Mark One Composite 3D Printer™ is the world's first 3D printer capable of printing in continuous carbon fiber, enabling innovators to create plastic parts that are as strong as aluminum. After years of designing and manufacturing high-performance composite race car wings at Aeromotions, Greg Mark, an MIT aerospace engineer, realized that he could use 3D printing hardware to automate the composite lay-up process. In 2013, MarkForged was born. MarkForged is a 2014 recipient of the Award for Composites Excellence (ACE) in the Manufacturing category at the 2014 Composites and Advanced Materials Expo.  Learn more at markforged.com.
