New Topaz Labs software introduces powerful technology to create a neon look, allowing artists, photographers and designers to transform their images with glowing line and graphic effects
DALLAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — December 9, 2014 — Topaz Labs announces the release of Topaz Glow, a processing program that uses state-of-the-art image processing techniques to produce illuminating light effects.
The first of its kind for Mac users, Glow extracts the hidden light from each image. With this technology, it can produce an exclusive range of looks from more than 70 one-click effects separated into six collections.
By applying its “Neon” collection, Glow darkens the background of an image, making the subject in focus appear to be infused with radiant light with vivid colors. In addition to photos, the graphic effects Glow offers can be used with vector drawings to achieve a flattened, sketch-like drawing, fibrous look or energized vibration effect. And if working with intricate details, Glow contains presets like “Fur and Feathers” to help distinguish specific image elements and create detailed illustrations that work well with animals and hair.
Dr. Yang Yang, the research scientist who led the product development of Glow, described his approach. “We took an extra step to push forward the processing technology in Glow to make it much faster with GPU acceleration, speeding up your creativity and empowering your imagination,” said Dr. Yang. “By developing a unique proprietary algorithm that extracts hidden light in an image, Glow gives the user freedom to produce both subtle and dramatic looks.”
Users looking to customize the effects can work within the individual sliders in the Primary and Secondary Glow modules to achieve virtually any look they desire. Various blending modes can be used to blend together the glowing edges with the original photo and there is also a strength slider to adjust the opacity of the effect. The parameters within Glow can be mixed and matched to create an array of surreal looks using advanced detail, color and edge sharpening technology. In addition, the modules allow the user to alter the "Glow Type" for a darkened or lightened glowing effect.
Glow works as a standalone editor as well as a plugin for Photoshop CS4+, Photoshop Elements 6+, Photoshop Creative Cloud and as an external editor for Lightroom. It is compatible with 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.8 and up. Photographers can take advantage of a free 30-day trial with Glow. Though the standard retail price of Glow is $69.99, it is available at a special reduced price of $49.99 until December 31st, 2014.
