Broadcom DSL Gateway Device Enables Gigabit-class Services to and Within the Home

High-performance Multimedia Gateway SoC Integrates G.fast to Deliver Broadcast Quality Multi-stream IPTV, Voice, Data and Home Networking

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 21, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — Broadband World Forum 2014 --

News Highlights:

  • Industry's first single-chip Gigabit-class DSL device for multi-service, multimedia gateways
  • Provides telcos with multiple high-end WAN connectivity options, adding G.fast to ADSL/VDSL, Gigabit Ethernet, and enhanced interfaces for LTE fixed wireless modems

Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today introduced advanced G.fast capabilities for its BCM63138 gateway SoC to allow global telcos to deliver Gigabit-class services to subscribers. The new G.fast digital subscriber line (DSL) standard, capable of supporting data rates in excess of 1Gbps with 106 MHz spectrum, augments Broadcom's telecom access portfolio to ensure carriers can deliver the fastest, most flexible and highest quality services to meet growing bandwidth and service needs. For more news, visit Broadcom's Newsroom.

Broadcom's BCM63138 high-performance device with G.fast for home gateways complements the new BCM65200/900 central office (CO) family of SoCs and further extends Broadcom's broadband carrier access portfolio, including ADSL/VDSL/Vectoring, Gigabit Ethernet and enhanced LTE. Broadcom will showcase its end-to-end DSL solutions at Broadband World Forum in Amsterdam from October 21-23, 2014 in booth #M7.

"Broadcom is combining the best-in-class ADSL/VDSL/Vectoring and advanced application capabilities of the BCM63138 with the new G.fast DSL standard to deliver the ultimate performance in multi-service, multimedia home gateway solutions," said Greg Fischer, Broadcom Senior Vice President and General Manager, Broadband Carrier Access. "Service providers and carriers looking to deploy G.fast solutions in early 2015 can leverage this compatible design to easily upgrade to even higher bandwidth data rates for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Gigabit-class broadband service offerings."

The BCM63138 also supports Gigabit dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi, multiport Gigabit Ethernet and multiline VoIP, allowing residential customers to experience the highest LAN data rates throughout the entire home. Utilizing a 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor plus additional offload engines and dedicated routing accelerator, Broadcom's BCM63138 maximizes the capabilities offered by high-end Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) devices such as home gateways. The device also fulfills a growing residential customer demand for high-end Networked Attached Storage (NAS) with support for high performance NAS and hard drive connectivity and extends the deployment longevity of CPE equipment.
