New sustainable Class A office building is future home of Vistaprint
WALTHAM, Mass. – October 3, 2014 – Hobbs Brook Management LLC (HBM), a pioneer in the development of office space in the Boston suburbs, and Commodore Builders, a mid-size construction management firm based in Boston, celebrated the Topping Off of its latest collaboration on Thursday Oct. 2,2014. Designed by Margulies Perruzzi Architects (MPA), the 315,000 SF, five-story Class A office building located at 275 Wyman Street in the Hobbs Brook Office Park in Waltham, Mass. is expected to be complete in June 2015. Waltham Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy was a featured speaker.
Mayor McCarthy remarked that “Hobbs Brook has always been a good corporate citizen, working with neighbors to develop projects that improve the quality of life for Waltham’s residents.” She wrote on the beam that “on a clear day [from the site of this building], you can see forever.” Commodore CEO Joe Albanese shared his family’s story, as immigrants from Sicily to Waltham, and “the pride that comes from knowing that family descendants and Commodore continue to build the future for the City of Waltham.”
With the goal of achieving LEED Silver certification, MPA designed a sustainable, dynamic base building with views of the Cambridge reservoir. The building, which features a full-service cafeteria, landscaped green roof courtyard, and a 1,025-car parking garage in an office campus setting, will be the new Boston office of Vistaprint (Nasdaq: VPRT), a global supplier of customized marketing products and services to micro businesses and consumers. The new building at 275 Wyman Street will be designed, constructed and operated as a high-performance green building.
"Hobbs Brook is proud to observe the topping off milestone by recognizing Commodore Builders and Margulies Peruzzi Architects, along with all the construction workers, for their efforts to make this project a reality for us,” said Thomas Dusel, president and CEO of Hobbs Brook Management “Hobbs Brook wishes to thank the City of Waltham for being a true partner in the development process, and the design and construction team for supporting our commitment to building and operating sustainably. We are proud to add another green Class A office building to the Hobbs Brook Office Park.”
The topping off ceremony for new building projects is an ancient construction tradition that marks the moment when the highest structural point in the building construction has been attained. To celebrate this event, a steel beam is painted white and signed by the workers and invited guests, then hoisted into place. A contemporary American version of this ceremony includes placing an evergreen tree on the beam in homage to any trees displaced by construction, along with an American flag to represent patriotism and respect for the construction workers.
