David Bowie, Vatican Museums in 3D and Vikings Headline New 'In The Gallery' Series-A Spectacular Cinematic Tour of Art Exhibits from Around the World

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- Sep 02, 2014 -- Matisse in a movie theatre? It's happening this fall, as Cineplex's new In the Gallery series provides a cinematic tour of some of the top international art exhibits from around the globe.

Event films included in this ground-breaking series include: David Bowie is, The Vatican Museums in 3D, Vikings from The British Museum, and Hermitage Revealed: 250 Years in the Making, which features the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. In The Gallery also includes the popular Exhibition: Great Art On Screen event films, and showcases artists such as Matisse, Vermeer, Rembrandt, van Gogh, and the Impressionists: Monet, Cezanne, Degas and Renoir.

David Bowie is (September 25, 27 and November 6, 2014)

This is a documentary film of the groundbreaking David Bowie is exhibition created by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The film takes the audience on an extraordinary journey through the David Bowie is exhibition with special guests, including legendary Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, Pulp front-man Jarvis Cocker, and other collaborators, to explore the stories behind some of the key objects that document Bowie's artistic career. The exhibition curators, Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh, provide fascinating insight into the most memorable music videos and original costumes, as well as more personal items such as never-before-seen handwritten lyrics, album cover artwork, set designs and diary entries, which reveal the creativity and evolution of Bowie's ideas. The documentary was filmed on the closing night of the V&A exhibition in London and directed by Hamish Hamilton, the BAFTA winning director of the Academy Awards and the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

VIKINGS from The British Museum (November 2 and 5, 2014)

This is the first major exhibition of Vikings at the British Museum in more than 30 years, featuring many new archaeological discoveries and objects never seen before in the UK, alongside important Viking Age artifacts from the British Museum's own collection and elsewhere in Britain and Ireland. This exhibition will be the first in The Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery, part of the new World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre that opened in 2014. The exhibition has been developed with the National Museum of Denmark and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) and focuses on the core period of the Viking Age from the late 8th century to the early 11th century.

Hermitage Revealed: 250 Years in the Making (November 16 and 19, 2014)
