Fraemes is the second MakerBot-Ready App to be announced since the MakerBot Developer Program launched in June. The MakerBot Developer Program aims to provide developers the resources needed to integrate with the MakerBot 3D Ecosystem and to access the growing 3D printing market. The MakerBot Developer Program also includes 3D printing capabilities in desktop, mobile, tablet and console-based apps and games, granting developers unprecedented access to MakerBot Replicator 3D Printing Platform for iOS, Android, Web and more.

“We are excited to partner with Fraemes as one of our approved developers and offer 3D printable, customizable and personalized iPhone cases,” noted Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “Phone cases are always one of the most popular items to 3D print and now with the MakerBot-Ready App Fraemes, 3D printing customers can easily and simply customize iPhones cases – with no design experience necessary!”

Users who purchase a Fraemes bumper can 3D print and insert as many customized and personalized design “inserts” as they desire.

“When we worked on creating the Fraemes technology, simplicity was our number one goal. We wanted to make it easy for designers and non-designers to design and personalize in 3D,” noted Sakunthala Panditharatne, Fraemes’ graphics engineer. With Fraemes, anyone can now print and carry around their own completely original piece of art, and change it up whenever they want.”

How It Works

First, users connect their MakerBot account at fraemes.com/makerbot and select a design from Fraemes’ collection of professionally designed inserts including cityscapes, pop culture icons, and monograms, each customizable with shapes and text. Once the checkout process is complete, users can then 3D print the designs directly from their MakerBot Desktop Library.

Each insert fits into the Fraemes iPhone 5/5S bumper available for purchase from fraemes.com. Those who don’t yet own a MakerBot Replicator® 3D Printer can still personalize their Fraeme iPhone case by purchasing their own custom Fraeme for $20 from a MakerBot Retail Store, located in New York, Boston or Greenwich, Connecticut, where it is 3D printed and available for pick-up. Digital files to download and bumpers to purchase are available through fraemes.com/makerbot, with digital files costing up to $1 and bumpers $12 each.
