Microfabrica to Speak at SEMICON West 2014 on Commercial Promise of Advanced Additive Manufacturing

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Jul 08, 2014 -- Microfabrica, a leader in advanced additive manufacturing (AM) for the aerospace, medical device and semiconductor industries, announced today that the Company has been invited to discuss its proprietary technology at SEMICON West 2014 in San Francisco. Microfabrica will participate in a panel discussion, 3D Printing: Science Fiction or the Next Industrial Revolution? The panel is part of a TechXPOT session on breakthrough technologies and will take place from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm on July 10, 2014. Microfabrica, the only company with a high volume production, micro-scale AM process, will discuss commercial applications for its technology in the semiconductor industry.

Microfabrica has leveraged its AM platform to establish global leadership in the fabrication of micro electrical contacts for the most advanced IC test applications. The Company's unique process allows for different metals to be combined into micro-composite structures that outperform any single metal or alloy. Micro-composites utilize best-in-class metals to enable optimal mechanical and electrical performance for IC test probes. This same capability has broad application in areas of thermal management and sensor packaging. Microfabrica will cover these applications, as well as its AM capabilities during its presentation.

"The science fiction around 3D printing is that the technology will soon be mature enough to print an entire jet engine," said Eric Miller, CEO. "Point of fact, for 3D printing to reach its full potential and become part of the next industrial revolution, it has to be practical as a high volume production solution. Microfabrica is leading this transformation, having shipped over 50 million commercial devices since our introduction in 2009."

Like 3D printing, Microfabrica manufactures 3-dimensional objects in layers directly from a digital model. This capability allows for unlimited design flexibility and eliminates the need for assembly. Unlike rapid prototyping, however, the technology is a commercial production solution. Microfabrica exploits the semi-conductor manufacturing paradigm to achieve high volume production with extreme precision at a micro scale. Thousands of devices are simultaneously manufactured on a single wafer. Further, Microfabrica's technology employs chemically pure, fully dense metals to produce robust commercial devices.
