The future of architectural visualization is available today

May 01, 2014 -- The introduction of Lumion® in 2010 changed the concept of infrastructural and architectural visualization. Since then rapidly growing numbers of AEC industry professionals have experienced for themselves why 3D expertise is no longer needed to create compelling visualization videos alongside wonderful still images. Lumion® 4.5 contains all the usual learnability, quality and world-beating speed of previous versions. Further improvements and updates have been implemented so that Lumion continues to work perfectly with the major 3D modelling software packages, such as Autodesk® Revit®, Autodesk® InfraWorks®, Nemetschek® Allplan® and Vectorworks®, Graphisoft® ArchiCAD® and Autodesk® 3D Studio Max. Lumion® 4.5 also imports native files from Trimble®SketchUp®.

Version 4.5 of Lumion® has enough features to warrant it being a major upgrade but it will be a free upgrade for all Lumion 4 users. Version 4.5 is very much a response to the views and feedback of Lumion®’s current customers.

With the release of Lumion® 4.5, the workflow has been made even better. The new ‘ Merge Scene’ function enables different people to parallel-work on the same Lumion scene, through model addition or replacement. The new ‘ Load/Save Effects’ function allows easy transfer of effects from one project to another and a similar ‘ Copy/Paste Effects’ function makes it simple to transfer effects between clips in a movie. The 3D model libraries now have a ‘ Favourites Tab’, which is needed given that the Pro version of Lumion now comes with well over 2400 high quality models like trees, plants, people, cars, animals etc.

The already-huge, high-quality 3D model library has again been enhanced with the addition of ‘24 Animated People of Different Ethnic Backgrounds’ into the Pro version of 4.5.

Other artistic features include Better Shadows, which are now crisper and more defined than ever before, even when they are far away. Fountains can now be colored, for example to match the lighting colors. The Glossiness of objects is now more visually appealing. The Size of the Sun and Moon can be scaled to produce wonderful artistic scenes. Automated Lights feature allows automatic switching on during night-time scenes and Lit-Up Vehicle Head and Tail Lamps are also now possible.

The whole of Lumion has also been ‘ Polished’ to make the user-experience even better in over 100 different ways; too many to quickly summarise.
