Richmond, VA – March 13, 2014 – Timmons Group, a leading provider of geospatial and strategic planning services, is pleased to announce that the Stewardship Mapping and Reporting Tool (SMART) project was selected as a winner of the 2013 US Forest Service Chief’s Honor Award.
Timmons Group partnered with the US Forest Service (USFS) in the development of a nationwide application to assist with the creation of Forest Stewardship Plans and tracking of on-the-ground spatial accomplishments. The USFS has worked diligently over recent years to identify priority focus areas for integrated conservation program delivery with State Forest Action Plan development. SMART not only aids states and other Forest Service partners in the creation of Stewardship Plans – it also serves to report how well spatial accomplishments and management activities align to defined priority land boundaries in State Forest Action Plans. Tracking the alignment of priorities identified in the State Forest Action Plans with accomplishments and consistently reporting against performance measures is increasingly important and SMART furthers this initiative. A primary focus of SMART is the development of comprehensive, multi-resource management plans that provide landowners with the information they need to manage their forests for a variety of products and services and to facilitate decision making.
“We would like to congratulate Karl R. Dalla Rosa, Program Manager at USDA Forest Service and his entire team on being the 2013 Chief’s Award Recipient.” said Lowell Ballard, Principal for Timmons Group’s Geospatial Solutions. “It is a great pleasure to work with Karl and his staff on this tremendous achievement that is being recognized by the Chief of the Forest Service.”
The ceremony for the 2013 award recipients will be held in conjunction with the March 2014 National Leadership Council meeting in Washington, DC, Monday, March 17, 2014.
