Mellanox Introduces CloudX Platform to Enable Companies to Build the Most Efficient Public, Private and Hybrid Clouds

CloudX™ improves compute and storage infrastructure efficiency, reduces costs, enables applications to process vast amounts of data in real-time, and accelerates business analytics and decision making

SUNNYVALE, CA and YOKNEAM, ISRAEL – February 18, 2014 – Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced CloudX, a reference architecture for building efficient cloud platforms. CloudX is based on the Mellanox OpenCloud™ architecture which leverages off-the-shelf components of servers, storage, interconnect and software to form flexible and cost-effective public, private and hybrid clouds. Leveraging Mellanox’s high speed interconnect solutions at 40 and 56Gb/s and with the ability to use open source-based software such as OpenStack, CloudX delivers unbounded cloud performance at lower capital and operational cost. CloudX delivers bottleneck-free performance and is the ideal cloud infrastructure to enable the development of next-generation media, business intelligence/analytics, e-commerce, CRM/HR, social media, and other software-as-a-service applications.
The CloudX platform delivers:

  • Off-the-shelf server, storage, interconnect and software components
  • OpenCloud architecture: based on open platforms and the ability to choose open source (Open Stack) or commercial software
  • Highest speed interconnect of 40/56Gb/s for fastest data transfer – InfiniBand and Ethernet
  • Application and virtual network acceleration
  • Solid State Drives (SSD) for fastest storage
  • User friendly access and management
  • Flexibility to install any software on an ultra-efficient cloud platform

“DDN has long been championing high performance cloud architecture as truly the most cost effective solution for the customer, with less required management, smaller data center footprint, and lower power consumption,” said Lior Gal, vice president, worldwide strategic accounts at DataDirect Networks. “We are very excited to partner with Mellanox in this revolutionary cloud architecture.”

“Cloud is becoming the most important technology in the data center, and future applications must run on the most efficient cloud with the best interconnect,” said Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Mellanox CloudX is built around Mellanox’s 56Gb/s InfiniBand and Ethernet Virtual Protocol Interconnect® solutions, enabling the fastest data transfer and effective utilization of compute, storage and Flash components to allow companies to develop new applications with unbounded cloud performance.”

"For OpenStack's true value to shine in the enterprise, it requires the collaboration of a strong ecosystem of global technology leaders," said Mike Werner, senior director, Global Ecosystems, Red Hat. "Red Hat is pleased to be collaborating with Mellanox on its CloudX architecture and as part of our Red Hat OpenStack Cloud Infrastructure Partner Network, where we’re working to build the industry's broadest certified OpenStack ecosystem to bring choice and the full power of OpenStack to enterprise customers."

"At Mirantis, we get involved in more OpenStack deployments than just about anyone, and increasingly, we see our customers choose Mellanox products to ensure their cloud infrastructure meets the throughput and latency requirements of demanding workloads and applications,” said David M. Fishman, vp marketing at Mirantis. “The CloudX Platform helps ensure that those deployments run on a hardware foundation that is well configured end-to-end, to match the agility and efficiency enabled by OpenStack cloud.”

“The Cloud is the future of data centers. The ability to build highly efficient cloud infrastructures based on off-the-shelf components is critical for the adoption of the cloud and the ability to run our existing and future cloud based applications. By utilizing high speed interconnect solutions at 40 and 56Gb/s, the CloudX platform enabled us to achieve excellent performance when analyzing data in massive volumes using Hadoop with Xplenty,” said Saggi Neumann, cto at Xplenty. “Xplenty is a cloud based Hadoop as a Service platform that takes the complexity out of using Hadoop. With Xplenty, no prior knowledge of Hadoop programming or Hadoop IT skills is required to provision and manage a Hadoop cluster and to create data flows. Companies of all sizes can immediately start processing their data to make a positive impact on their business while using an elastic and scalable infrastructure."

"Dome9 is excited to work together with Mellanox and enable our security offering on the CloudX platform. Dome9's Cloud SecOps platform allows cloud providers and enterprises to manage security policies across a wide range of network security and firewall virtualization technologies,” said Zohar Alon, CEO and Co-Founder Dome9 Security. “Securing OpenStack clouds built on top of Mellanox’s innovative SDN interconnect technology is an important milestone on our journey to enable enterprises to deploy a comprehensive cloud security policy, across any public or private clouds."
