"While G.hn is the clear future technology for wired home networking, it's clear that consumers and the companies that serve them still require significant support for the HomePNA protocol," stated Gabi Hilevitz, vice president and general manager for Sigma Designs' home connectivity business unit. "Our demonstration today gives the industry the best of both worlds. The means to extend the life of their current network investment while providing a clear path forward to next-generation speeds and services."
Sigma has shipped tens of millions of certified HomePNA devices that are deployed worldwide. As part of Sigma's commitment to its HomePNA OEMs and service provider customers, Sigma's CG5200 next generation G.hn home networking silicon coexist with HomePNA installed base. At CES, Sigma is demonstrating two generations of home networking technologies, HomePNA and G.hn and overlaying each over same medium delivering IPTV content. Such an overlay enables service providers to enhance their services and run higher throughput for customers wishing to upgrade their services in legacy HomePNA deployments.
G.hn and HomePNA are ITU-T defined technologies and being promoted and supported by the HomeGrid Forum enjoying more than 70 members, including 28 service providers, and some of the largest OEMs, ODMs and retailers in the world.
