Infinite Skills Carrara 8.5 Tutorial Explores New Tools for 3D Creation

The 11-hour, 129-lesson course is designed to help new Carrara users develop the confidence with Carrara's toolset to bring their animation ideas to life.

November 12, 2013 - Toronto, Canada—Software training firm Infinite Skills Inc. this week released its "Learning Carrara 8.5 Tutorial," an introductory course teaching all the tools and techniques involved in producing animated 3D figures in this user-friendly and feature-rich 3D modeling application.

Carrara is a general purpose animation and rendering program commonly used for figure posing, modeling, and landscape design. It has several features which make it a leading choice in its market niche, such as the ability to work with both rigid and soft bodies, realistic hair and lighting features, an intuitive interface, and fast rendering.

Infinite Skills' "Learning Carrara 8.5 Video Training," provides students with a basic skill set in Carrara, guiding users through the creation of various model-types, including a spaceship, a fantasy scene, and an army.

Course author Phil Wilkes has worked professionally in computer arts for more than 25 years. After learning his first gaming platform, he quickly produced two games for commercial release. He then moved over to 3D where he has several other publications to his credit including an animated movie that was distributed as an insert with a popular magazine. He has also written and trained extensively within the 3D modeling community.

After an introduction to Carrara, explaining its navigation and how to work in 3D space, Wilkes dives right in to Carrara functionality, explaining first of all how to work with objects in Carrara using tools like move, scale, and rotate, as well as advanced tools like parenting and grouping, and working with modifiers.

The course then continues explaining how to work with cameras and use lighting and scene effects, such as how to position a camera, apply various types of lighting, and add effects like global illumination and rays and beams.

Other chapters cover the details of critical techniques involved in animation, modeling, 3D painting, working with bullet physics and soft bodies, using the hair tools, and using with replicators, among other topics.

"I've worked with a number of modeling programs," Wilkes says. "Carrara is the overall best 3D solution. It has a full feature-set capable of producing a wide variety of wonderfully realistic and imaginative solutions to rival the CGI effects you see on television and movies."

"This course is designed to help you tap into these powerful features and create some amazing images."
