Richardson, TX (October 22, 2013) – Designers of systems based on one or more Texas Instruments (TI) OMAP application processors with ARM cores can now debug software and firmware code faster with ASSET® InterTech’s Arium SourcePoint™ debugger for ARM. ASSET (www.asset-intertech.com), through its ScanWorks® platform for embedded instruments, is the leading supplier of tools for embedded instruments.
The Arium SourcePoint debugger has a number of advanced capabilities, including address translation, dynamic page translation, multiple code formats and a self-diagnostics test suite. ASSET will demonstrate SourcePoint’s new, patent pending trace capabilities as it debugs code running on a TI OMAP54xx during next week’s ARM TechCon (Booth 603) in Santa Clara, Calif.
“Software development teams who are programming for a multicore processor like one of TI’s OMAP processors are constantly challenged to find the cause of code bugs as well as performance bottlenecks in the code and system. And they need to find these bugs quickly so the system can be delivered to market on time,” said Larry Osborn, ASSET product manager for Arium tools.
“The ASSET Arium SourcePoint debugger gives software developers the kind of visibility into code execution that they need. It is critical to not only have tools that support intrusive debug but that the tool fully utilized the trace features in the silicon to provide macro-level system debug as well as micro-level code trace.”
To serve the needs of different types of design teams that may be developing a wide range of applications, two ASSET Arium run-control probes support the SourcePoint ARM debugger.
The LC-500S is a cost-effective run-control probe for debugging ARM code running on OMAP processors. SourcePoint on the LC-500S supports TI’s Embedded Trace Buffer and takes advantage of ARM’s Program Trace Macrocell (PTM) and System Trace Macrocell (STM) capabilities. The SourcePoint ARM debugger provides extensive post-capture analytics, results graphing and search functionality.
The LX-1000 Trace Port Analyzer supports extensive external storage of two gigabytes for trace results. Software and firmware engineers can thoroughly and effectively examine the trace results stored in the LX-1000 to identify the precise location of the cause of a bug in the code.
Post-processing capabilities such as statistical tabulation and others are synchronized with SoucePoint’s line-by-line code display of trace results.
The Arium tools will also be available as part of the ScanWorks platform in its test and validation toolset.
