Lattice Technology® Offers Simple, Affordable Solution for Increasing Usability of 3D Product Design Data across Extended Enterprise

–Solution set with upgraded features and reduced price allows users to share, collaborate and enhance 3D design data for increased productivity and quality–

San Francisco, July 18, 2013—Lattice Technology, Inc., an industry leader of technical communication and digital mock up software for the manufacturing industry, today announced upgrades to their 3-Step solution set for leveraging 3D data across the extended enterprise. The upgraded solution set includes the latest versions of three Lattice Technology products: XVL Studio, XVL Web Master, and XVL Player.

Lattice Technology delivers solutions that build on top of existing 3D design data, allowing manufacturers to seamlessly extend the use of 3D data beyond engineering to all segments of the product lifecycle. Leveraging the 3D model across every part of the design-to-customer process improves time-to-market and quality, creating better designs and ultimately increasing profitability.

Like all Lattice Technology products, this upgraded solution set uses the XVL®–an advanced 3D data format that is typically one half of one percent of the native CAD model size, while still maintaining accuracy. This ultra-lightweight format allows users to consume extremely large assemblies with thousands of parts on standard PC desktops and laptops, as well as on mobile devices like the Apple® iPad®. In addition to being ultra-lightweight, XVL is uniquely suited for creating enhanced, intelligent models that can include animations, annotations, PMI/GD&T and work instructions.

“XVL is the ideal platform for leveraging 3D data across the extended enterprise to all stakeholders. Because our solutions are so easy to use, even non-CAD operators can create advanced models that include elements such as work instructions, annotations, and assembly/disassembly animations,” explained Bill Barnes, General Manager, Lattice Technology, Inc. “This upgraded 3-Step solution set increases functionality and delivers an overall lower entry price point, making the solution attainable for even small to mid-sized manufacturers.”

From Native CAD to Any Stakeholder – 3-Step Solution Set

Lattice Technology’s 3-Step solution set includes three components:   authoring, publishing and consuming. The process starts with the native CAD model and ends with 3D models that can be consumed by a number of free players.

Step 1: Authoring (Create the XVL model and additional elements)

Authoring or creating the XVL model is the first step of the process. The XVL model is created by the native CAD program using a free “plug-in” from Lattice Technology or can be automated with a PDM/PLM system integration.

Alternatively, XVL Studio can directly read the native CAD data. Geometry from multiple CAD systems may be included into a single XVL model. For example, manufacturing may include models of tooling and fixtures. Additionally, users can create information such as annotations, PMI/GD&T, animations, and 3D interactive snapshots. Processes may be modeled using elements such as tooling/fixtures, human interaction and work instructions.

Lattice Technology’s latest version of XVL Studio includes major upgrades such as improvements to the advanced interactive work instructions, design review enhancements and improvements to the auto-detect/update feature. The auto-detect/update feature is significant, because it ensures a user’s XVL environment stays current with the native CAD. All changes are automatically identified and presented for acceptance, which saves the user time, increases quality and ensures the XVL model is accurately maintained.

Step 2: Publishing (Enables the free consumption of XVL models in Step 3)

Publishing is the second phase of the process, enabling the enhanced 3D models to be available for consumption in a number of ways:

-      XVL Web Master for creating rich, interactive 3D web pages

-      iXVL Publisher for creating mobile interactive 3D models for Apple iOS (used for devices such as the iPad)

-      Lattice3D Reporter for creating interactive spreadsheets with embedded 3D models using a free plug-in for Microsoft® Excel®

Lattice Technology is announcing a new product specifically designed for small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs): XVL Web Master Express. A slimmed down version of XVL Web Master, XVL Web Master Express is available at a dramatically reduced price point. XVL Web Master Express makes the publishing of intelligent 3D models into a fast loading, 3D interactive web page as simple as selecting a template and clicking a button.

Step 3: Consumption (Free usage by stakeholders of the 3D XVL enhanced model)

Consumption of XVL models is available through many powerful, yet free options:

-      Interactive 3D web pages published with XVL Web Master/Express

-      Mobile iOS devices, such as the Apple iPad (free iXVL Player iOS app)

-      Microsoft Excel spreadsheets published by Lattice3D Reporter (free downloadable plug-in)

-      XVL Player for Windows® can read XVL models directly from XVL Studio and do not require publishing (Step 2).

Recently, iXVL Player (an iOS app) was enhanced to play animations. XVL Player will be updated at the end of July with usability and performance improvements.

Part of Lattice Technology’s vision is to enable companies to easily provide interactive, intelligent, 3D documents to those who need to consume this data. Controls are also available with XVL Signer, which provides a range of capabilities from AES encryption to access control.
