LMS Test.Lab Rev 13 helps automotive engineers further improve and speed up testing processes

Leuven, Belgium, 22 May 2013 – LMS, which was recently acquired by Siemens and is now a business segment within Siemens PLM Software, announces a new release of its widespread LMS Test.Lab engineering suite for test data acquisition and analysis. LMS Test.Lab Rev 13 includes a range of new solutions to help engineers test quicker, without compromising accuracy. Highlights for the automotive industry include a new approach to pass-by noise engineering, enhanced vibro-acoustic engineering capabilities and a fully integrated collaborative data management solution. The new release also offers advanced support for the NVH engineering of hybrid and electrical vehicles.

“LMS Test.Lab is designed to make testing more efficient and, as such, boost a test facility’s productivity, while delivering reliable results and valuable engineering insight. With Revision 13 of LMS Test.Lab we continue along this path, adding new capabilities and new productivity features,” commented Bruno Massa, Vice-President of LMS Test Division.

Extended solution for Pass-by Noise (PBN) engineering solution

With new certification methods and lower noise emission level limits, PBN standards are evolving considerably. LMS therefore made particular efforts to take PBN engineering to a new level when designing Rev 13 of LMS Test.Lab. By combining classical frequency-based and time-domain transfer path analysis (TPA) measurements with PBN measurements, Rev 13 provides a brand-new way to identify source contribution: it allows engineers to easily analyze which subsystems contribute most to the total noise level, relative to the vehicle position. The new approach can deliver results extremely fast. All interior or exterior PBN measurements can be finalized within just two days.

Advances in structural testing

When it comes to structural testing LMS Test.Lab offers an exceptionally complete set of tools, with a strong focus on testing accuracy and productivity. Revision 13 provides enhanced possibilities for order-based modal analysis and an improved version of the LMS PolyMAX modal parameter estimator. In addition, the new release allows modal analysis on strain gauge data.

Extended offering for vibro-acoustic testing

Another enhancement in Rev 13 is the extended Sound Source Localization capabilities. By coupling advanced processing technology to optimized array definition, LMS Test.Lab Rev 13 helps engineers easier identify and separate different sound sources. Further improvements in the field of acoustic testing include additional extensions to the Transfer Path Analysis portfolio: revision 13 expands the frequency range and allows analysis in the time domain for higher frequency variables.

Full data management solution

To make LMS Test.Lab Rev 13 complete, LMS integrated a full data management solution. Designed specifically for engineering departments, the data management solution helps testing engineers with data collection, annotation, storage and sharing. As all the data is now stored on a central server, everyone involved in testing analysis and interpretation of results can easily search and access all the information, in real time. The thin web client allows data access and collaboration from any mobile internet connection.

Better support of NVH testing on hybrid and electric vehicles

A last crucial addition to LMS Test.Lab Rev 13 is its advanced support for the engineering of hybrid and electric vehicles. With the focus on hybrid and e-vehicles growing, testing engineers are facing new acoustic and NVH challenges. Noises that are covered up by the engine and other low-frequency noises in traditional cars, for example, become audible and disturbing in their electric counterparts. LMS Test.Lab Rev 13 LMS helps reduce disturbing wind noise perceived in the car cockpit and better handle perceived road noise or auxiliary noise. Besides that, the new release also offers capabilities to tackle NVH issues like the high-frequency tonal components generated by the inverters that control the power of AC motors through pulse width modulation.
