Architects Issue Statement on Mark-Up of Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act

Washington, D.C. , May 9, 2013 -- The American Institute of Architects (AIA) issued the following statement in reaction to the approval Wednesday of the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The legislation promotes energy efficiency throughout the built environment.

The statement should be attributed to AIA President Mickey Jacob, FAIA:

“We would like to first commend Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), ranking Republican Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and sponsors Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) for their leadership in advancing a truly bipartisan bill that the AIA can wholeheartedly support as it moves to the floor for a Senate vote.

“We are also pleased that the bill keeps energy conservation requirements as they pertain to new federal buildings.

“We hope that the Shaheen-Portman bill can proceed to a vote on the Senate floor without any unnecessary amendments that would undermine the intent of the legislation and damage the consensus-based process through which it has been developed.”
