"Pictometry saw an opportunity to greatly improve how customers managing critical infrastructure can access and utilize aerial imagery of their networks and assets," said Jim Smyth, chief marketing officer of Pictometry. "This latest integration of our intelligent imagery into AutoCAD Civil 3D empowers infrastructure professionals to quickly, easily and intuitively blend GIS, CAD and real-world visualization into a single productive workflow."
With Pictometry imagery and data a click away inside AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013, asset data such as transmission and distribution networks, oil and gas pipelines, and lease parcel boundaries can be accurately displayed on top of dimensional imagery, providing a powerful way to verify and validate spatial data. The imagery is precisely geo-synchronized with the user's drawing file, automatically overlaying GIS and CAD data -- allowing Pictometry's imagery to be used as a visually intelligent backdrop for creating new content, as well as editing and attributing existing content. The new integration enables professionals to use data contained within the Pictometry solution, including parcel boundaries, elevation contours and road labels, over proprietary oblique and orthogonal imagery.
In addition, Pictometry has added an integration within AutoCAD® Map 3D 2013, complementing its existing integration with AutoCAD® Map 3D 2012, which was released last year.
Both AutoCAD Civil 3D and AutoCAD Map 3D integrations utilize the new Pictometry Connect platform which allows users to instantly access Pictometry's 2.1 petabyte library of oblique and orthogonal imagery, as well as accurate geo-spatial content. With professional-quality aerial imagery being stored in the cloud to ensure world-class management and updates, AutoCAD Map 3D and AutoCAD Civil 3D customers can eliminate the IT burden of self-managing aerial imagery and data on their own servers, while enabling simpler enterprise-wide access to imagery. They can also securely upload their own location-based data sets to Pictometry Connect, which are then layered on the images alongside proprietary measurement and analytics tools to deliver unparalleled visual insights.
"With Pictometry Connect, we are able to update our vast image library and make that content available to customers more quickly than ever," Smyth said. "As we continue to capture imagery of infrastructure corridors, entire counties and even post-disaster environments, our customers will have faster and easier access to that information. Civil 3D and Map 3D users will benefit from the latest imagery and accurate data to make faster, more informed decisions -- saving time and reducing costs."
