SPECapc Releases Autodesk Maya 2012 Benchmark

LOS ANGELES — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 8, 2012 — SPEC’s Application Performance Characterization (SPECapc) project group has released new performance evaluation software for systems running Autodesk Maya 2012 3D animation software. The announcement was made in conjunction with SIGGRAPH 2012 in Los Angeles.

SPECapc for Maya 2012 includes 50 individual tests that reflect the processes used to model, animate and render scenes within the application. A particular emphasis is placed on testing performance for large texture sizes and multiple viewports.

The following new features are included in SPECapc for Maya 2012:

  • Additional tests that measure CPU-intensive tasks beyond rendering, including physics-based simulations such as liquid, smoke, cloth, hair and deformation.
  • Performance tests for three types of rendering – mental ray, Maya Software and Maya Hardware 2.0.
  • Composite scores that are weighted to better reflect performance of shading and texturing features most used by Maya customers.
  • Upgrades associated with the migration from Maya 2009 to Maya 2012.

“We’re pleased to offer this upgrade in time for SIGGRAPH 2012,” says Allen Jensen, SPECapc chair. “This is part of a new initiative to provide more frequent, incremental benchmark updates for users of popular graphics-intensive applications.”

Available now

SPECapc for Maya 2012 is available for free downloading on the SPEC web site: www.spec.org/gwpg. It is available currently for Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit platforms. Because of workload changes, results from SPECapc for Maya 2012 cannot be compared to those from previous SPECapc Maya benchmarks.

The SPECapc group also provides benchmarks for systems running Autodesk 3ds Max, NewTek LightWave 3D, PTC Creo, SolidWorks, and Siemens NX.
