Modo Labs Helps Universities Increase Enrollment Through Mobile Devices

New Modules for Mobile Campus Solution Make Admissions and Tours Easy Through Mobile Web and Native Apps

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 16, 2012 — (PRNewswire) — Modo Labs™, the leading open source mobile platform provider, today announced two powerful new modules for its Kurogo  Mobile Campus solution. Mobile Admissions and Mobile Tours help universities increase interest and enrollment. Mobile Campus provides the solution to help schools establish a comprehensive mobile presence via iOS and Android native apps and the mobile web. Through Mobile Campus, universities can better engage with prospective students, current students, faculty, alumni and staff.

According to the National Research Center for College & University Admissions, 52 percent of prospective college students used their mobile devices to research school websites last year. This was twice the percentage from 2010. The Admissions module lets schools engage prospective students and parents with information about the school, its curriculum, daily life on campus, the application process and more. It enables universities to deliver application requirements and information needed to support recruitment and admissions efforts. The Tour module leads users through interactive, multi-stop mobile walking tours complete with descriptive text, photos, videos and more. Users visit the campus, its significant landmarks and culture while on or off-campus, directly supporting recruitment and retention efforts.

The Admissions and Tour modules offer multi-platform support and can be provided as a native app or as a smartphone-optimized Mobile Web (HTML5) application. The modules can be themed with school logos, text styles, background colors and icons.

The Admissions module features include:

  • Critical Content: Explore majors and programs, financial aid facts, highlights into campus life, and fill out mobile optimized forms to schedule a visit or request more information.
  • Social Media Ties: Connect to the school's Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites from Mobile Campus.

The Tour module features include:

  • Welcome, Help and Finish Pages: Provide context, guidance and help users start, follow and complete tours.
  • Tour Stops and Points of Interest: Determine a set of ordered tour stops accompanied by photos, videos and the stop location on a Google map.

"A growing number of prospective students and parents are now researching their target universities and colleges through mobile devices. Modo Labs helps schools support this demand and influx of mobile visitors with the Admissions and Tour functionality in Mobile Campus," said Andrew Yu, chief executive officer of Modo Labs. "By engaging prospective students through the channel of their choice – smartphones and tablets – Mobile Campus helps schools increase inquiries and registrations."

The Admissions and Tour modules are available as additions to Mobile Campus or as standalone applications. Mobile Campus is built on the Kurogo Mobile Optimized Middleware (MOM), a new generation of open source middleware especially designed for mobile devices which significantly reduces development time for organizations while instantly delivering a world-class mobile experience.
