1Spatial launches the UKPostcodeValidator Transformer for FME®

July 02, 2012 -- 1Spatial is delighted to announce the launch of a new FME transformer to help you quickly and easily prepare your postcode data for more effective geocoding, without incurring any additional costs.

Recently unveiled at the FME World Tour event in London, hosted by 1Spatial and STAR-APIC, the UKPostcodeValidator is now available in the ‘FME Store’ and allows you to identify whether your postcode data has a valid syntax when compared against the BS7666 rules. 1Spatial has bundled all of this intelligence into a single transformer that allows you to whip your data into shape before you start geocoding or analysing your asset data.

As well as providing confidence in your postcode data, the transformer also gives you information on how to fix any errors that it cannot resolve automatically. Where postcodes are valid, it provides a correctly formatted postcode (uppercase and correctly spaced). Where postcodes are invalid, it provides information on where the error occurs to assist you in fixing the postcode data.

This simple transformer means you can improve the efficiency of your data validation activities without incurring extra costs, as you can download the UKPostcodeValidator and then use it for FREE with FME once you have obtained a license file from 1Spatial Group Ltd. To download the transformer, just search in the FME Workbench Transformer Gallery for the “UKPostcodeValidator” and then email us at Email Contact for your license.

Commenting on the release, David Eagle, Principal Consultant at 1Spatial added:

“So many organisations in the UK rely on the humble postcode to locate assets or understand the geography of their customers or citizens and yet they can be very prone to error. It just takes one character to be incorrect or a space to appear in the wrong location for it to become almost useless as a spatial reference. The UKPostcodeValidator helps you to identify where you might have issues with your data and even helps you to understand what the issue is. At 1Spatial we need to do similar data validation on a daily basis, so we thought we’d share this intelligence in the form of a transformer that FME users can leverage for their own needs.”

1Spatial Group Ltd is a Value Added Reseller of Safe Software and has a network of FME Certified Professionals and FME Certified Trainers in the UK, Ireland and Australia, able to provide bespoke training services, consultancy and technical support for both FME Desktop and FME Server.
