WHY:

Moderated by Mays, this panel of sustainable building experts will challenge attendees to reevaluate the effectiveness of leading green design and construction best practices, including LEED, the 2030 Challenge and Living Building Challenge. Together, the panelists will look at a recent case study that goes beyond LEED certification when it comes to sustainable building, covering its carbon footprint, air pollution, water pollution and energy use and sourcing.

The purpose of this panel is to:

· Demonstrate LEED’s inadequacies, including the fact that the system is prescriptive not performance-based, and it does not take into consideration the full lifecycle analysis (LCA) of materials used;

· Discuss how to deliver projects under budget while still achieving environmental objectives;

· Understand the certification, transportation, and other factors contributing to environmental impact; and

· Demonstrate how building product manufacturers can make their green performance criteria transparent to their customers.
