Blue Marble Introduces Envelope Control to ArcMap with Desktop 2.3 Release

Gardiner, Maine – July 22, 2011- Blue Marble Geographics ( www.bluemarblegeo.com ) is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of the Blue Marble Desktop v2.3. With this release come many new & exciting features that will allow users and managers to expand their usage of the Blue Marble Desktop within their respective organizations. Version 2.3 adds key functionality enhancements that grant users the ability to edit and share custom coordinate transformation work both in the Blue Marble Desktop and with Esri’s ArcMap via the Geographic Calculator Extension for ArcMap. Additional features include six new vertical datum models, a new MetaData Editor and LiDAR processing tool, and other map data viewing enhancements.

Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas , mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

The featured module of the Blue Marble Desktop is Geographic Calculator v7.6. The Blue Marble Desktop's enhanced enveloping system will now provide users with the ability to define custom polygon envelopes through the import of a vector file, or through the envelope creation tool in the administrative tools section. With this version, envelopes now provide the ability to filter coordinate systems and horizontal datums in addition to datum transformations from prior releases. Envelopes have always been the background logic defining geographic areas of use for coordinate transformation processes in the Blue Marble Desktop. These new enhancements allow managers and advanced users even more customization capabilities. With version 7.6 of the Geographic Calculator users can now view all of these types of coordinate objects in ArcMap by area of use, using both the default systems in ArcMap and Blue Marble’s GeoCalc engine.

The latest version also contains six new geoid models (vertical datums) and the ability to define an offset from a geoid. There have also been several updates to the vector data conversion job including a new area cropper and layer splitter tools for breaking up vector files.

Another innovative feature added to the Blue Marble Desktop v2.3 is the new MetaData Editor Tool. This tool will come with read and write support for XML and text-based metadata files which are compliant with both FGDC and Esri. This release also features enhancements to LiDAR processing and viewing along with improvements in overall batch data processing and much more.
