Seasoned designer leads MPA’s healthcare studio

BOSTON – Feb. 11, 2016 –  Margulies Perruzzi Architects (MPA), one of Boston’s most innovative architectural and interior design firms, is proud to announce that Partner and Associate Principal Jason B. Costello, AIA, EDAC, LEED AP, has earned Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) from  The Center for Health Design, a non-profit organization of passionate healthcare designers and professionals dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare through design of the built environment.

The internationally recognized EDAC program awards credentials to individuals demonstrating the ability to apply an evidence-based process to healthcare facility design, including measuring and reporting results. The evidence-based design process has been proven to produce measurable improvements in healthcare facility clinical outcomes, economic performance, productivity, customer satisfaction and cultural measures, among others. The EDAC exam’s five sections tests on evidence-based design in healthcare, the research process, the pre-design process, construction, and occupancy. The Center for Health Design advances best practices and empowers healthcare leaders with quality research that demonstrates the value of design to improve health outcomes, patient experience of care, and provider/staff satisfaction and performance.

Leading MPA’s healthcare studio, Jason is a project architect and designer specializing in large healthcare project design and construction. His focus is on creating healing environments that balance the clinical requirements of staff with the personal needs of patient and family. With more than 16 years of architectural experience, he is recognized for his leadership, integrity, and ability to mentor team members and create an atmosphere of learning.

Prior to joining MPA, Jason was associate principal at a Boston-based architecture firm working on large hospital projects including MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Penn., Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Mass., and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn. Jason received a Bachelor of Architecture with a general management concentration from Syracuse University. A registered and LEED accredited architect, Jason is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects, and the New England Society for Healthcare Strategy.
