City to City Barcelona FAD Award 2016: learning initiatives in the city

Barcelona, Spain, 2015-12-22 - Since its creation on 2008, City to City Barcelona FAD Award has been looking around the globe for urban projects, big and small, which really improve the life in the city. Since then, the award, developed in collaboration with Barcelona town hall and catalonian government, has acknowledged more than 400 projects from 236 cities, from Medellín to Malmö, via Cape town or New York. Although the spirit of the award has been very eclectic, recent years have witnessed an evolution towards an important presence of bottom-up projects and citizen participation.

Now the 6th edition of the award arrives with changes. City to City will be biennal from now on, and also, 2016 edition will be theme-driven for the first time. This year we want to focus on the concept of learning initiatives in the city. We are looking for urban projects promoting collective production and organization of knowledge, producing situations we can learn from. Projects which encourage collective recovery of public spaces, contemplating the complexity of places that we all use on a daily basis as richness, and social interaction as the essential engine to improve urban life.

The call for projects is now open and anyone, from individuals to collectives and associations of all kinds, can participate with as many projects as they wish. All you have to do is enter our website (http://fad.cat/citytocity) and fill a form with important information about the project. There you will also find the guidelines for the award. From that point, we will take care of it.

IMPORTANT: the projects that enter competition must have been developed and tested before december 31st, 2015, in any city except Barcelona.

The call will be open until april 12th, 2016, that day included, and the winner will be announced in July. The award giving ceremony will be celebrated in Barcelona, autumn 2016.
