Bentley Extends Integrated Structural Modeling to Broader Range of Project Stakeholders

Announces New Structural Synchronizer View App for iPad and iPhone, plus ISM Support for Tekla Structures, Dlubal’s RSTAB and RFEM, and Revit Structure

AMSTERDAM — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 9, 2011 — Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced new software innovations that extend the benefits of its Integrated Structural Modeling (ISM) methodology to a broader range of stakeholders in integrated projects. These stakeholders include structural engineers working on site, construction and fabrication professionals, architects, mechanical engineers, and many others. Bentley’s new Structural Synchronizer View iWare App enhances information mobility for these practitioners by enabling them to interact with structural models anywhere on the iPad or iPhone (and soon, Android and Windows Phone mobile devices). iWare is provided for no charge to promote interoperability through plug-ins and apps, including Structural Synchronizer and Structural Dashboard, and now Structural Synchronizer View (available as iWare at www.bentley.com/iWare).

In addition, new ISM support through iWare announced today brings the users of Tekla Structures, RSTAB and RFEM analysis and design packages from Ingenieur-Software Dlubal GmbH, and Revit Structure products into integrated structural workflows. ISM maximizes the interoperability of structural information among specialized applications and building information modeling (BIM) software to synchronize information mobility for authors and consumers of a project’s structural information.

Huw Roberts, Bentley global marketing director, said, “All of the ISM innovations being announced today advance the ability to accomplish structural modeling, analysis, design, documentation, and detailing within synchronized and flexible workflows – further empowering intelligent structural design practices. The advantages of these practices include dynamic collaboration and increased data reuse – information mobility – among structural engineers, detailers, and fabricators. This results in the more efficient delivery of high-quality designs and well-coordinated and accurate documentation, along with increased project productivity, reduced errors, and improved quality control. Maintaining compatibility with architects and other disciplines extends these benefits across the entire project team. We’re particularly appreciative of the cooperation of Tekla Corporation and Ingenieur-Software Dlubal in helping us improve project quality for all through our iWare initiative.”

The New Structural Synchronizer View App

Leveraging content from Bentley’s no-charge Structural Synchronizer iWare App, the new Structural Synchronizer View iWare App lets users view and navigate full 3D models and initiate information queries on the iPad or iPhone. Models can be opened from ProjectWise, email, iTunes, Dropbox, Amazon S3, and more. The app will be available on www.bentley.com/iWare and through iTunes soon, pending final approval by the Apple App Store.

Structural Synchronizer is the core component of an ISM workflow. Facilitated by i-models (containers for open infrastructure information exchange) it provides data synchronization, change management, revision history, and model viewing. Structural Synchronizer V8i spans structural modeling, analysis and design, documentation and drafting, detailing and fabrication, and industry-neutral file formats to:

Phil Francis, senior project coordinator, Structural Design Group, said, “Bentley’s Structural Synchronizer and Integrated Structural Modeling workflow have really simplified the sharing of structural information on our projects. Our teams can work in parallel on modeling, analysis, design, documentation, drafting, and detailing using a variety of applications, and easily and reliably share their structural work with each other. This saves us time and reduces the risk of coordination errors. Extending this to our iPads makes this even better, since this information is highly valuable when on site or away from our desks!”

Structural Synchronizer V8i is available for Microsoft Windows for download at www.bentley.com/iWare.

ISM for Tekla Structures, Dlubal’s RSTAB and RFEM, and Revit

In May of this year Bentley announced a joint collaboration with Tekla Corporation to further advance the interoperability of software within BIM workflows. These efforts have resulted in the ISM support for Tekla Structures available today. Through this new development, Tekla Structures can interoperate with all other ISM-enabled software, including Bentley’s STAAD, RAM Concept, RAM Elements, Structural Modeler, ProSteel, and ProConcrete – enabling its users to now participate in ISM workflows.

Also announced today is new ISM support from Ingenieur-Software Dlubal GmbH, an Eastern Bavaria, Germany-based provider of analysis and design software. The company has implemented ISM support in its RSTAB and RFEM packages.

In addition, Bentley today announced enhanced ISM support for Revit Structure. The new ISM Revit plug-in helps users coordinate, change, and synchronize structural data by enabling Revit Architecture and Revit Structure models to participate in ISM workflows and share information with ISM-enabled structural design and analysis applications using Structural Synchronizer V8i. The ISM Revit plug-in is available for no charge at www.bentley.com/iWare.

ISM-Enabled iWare Apps and Products from Bentley

The list of iWare Apps and products from Bentley that support ISM continues to grow, bringing more project stakeholders into these information mobility workflows so they can benefit from enhanced collaboration and data reuse. These apps and products currently include:
