Blue Marble Representatives to Speak on Importance of Sustaining Accurate Data during the Esri Survey Summit

Gardiner, Maine – July 8, 2011 - Blue Marble Geographics ( www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce their participation at this year’s Esri Survey Summit conference in San Diego California July 8th though the 10th. Patrick Cunningham, President of Blue Marble, will be speaking on the topic of LiDAR and Accurate Coordinate Transformation on Friday July 8th at 2:00PM. Also presenting at this year’s Survey Summit will be Blue Marble’s Director of Product Management, Samuel Knight, on Sunday July 10th at 2:00PM. Mr. Knight will discuss the importance of Maintaining High Accuracy in Today’s Geodata.

Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

Mr. Cunningham’s talk will cover some of the common problem areas with LiDAR data which include; avoiding processes that negatively impact accuracy, vertical datum transformations, and the benefits of properly documenting datasets with complete metadata. This informative presentation will focus on the importance in understanding that as LiDAR technology matures; point densities and point cloud resolutions will increase, allowing users to work with more precise and consequently more valuable data. Improper transformations can easily embed corrupted data into the user’s workflow, which may go unnoticed until it is too late.

Mr. Knight will be speaking on the key concepts of maintaining high accuracy data such as; storing time-based coordinate data, identifying and preventing processes that degrade data quality, and the very real need for quality metadata. Survey grade geospatial data is a key component in everything from planning and decision-making to execution, and ongoing maintenance of a project. This presentation will discuss just how valuable geospatial data can be when gathered, managed, and used correctly.

Blue Marble will also be exhibiting at this year’s Survey Summit. Visit booth S-400 for a firsthand look at the newest version of the Blue Marble Desktop 2.3 due to be released mid-July. The latest version of the Blue Marble Desktop and the Geographic Calculator include an enhanced Esri Extension which will allow users to define coordinate transformations in ArcMap by area of use, through both the Esri Projection Engine and Blue Marble’s GeoCalc engine. Come see why GIS analysts and surveyors around the world, who rely on highly accurate and user-friendly GIS data processing, turn to Blue Marble.
