Esri President, Jack Dangermond, Delivers Keynote at OSIsoft Users Conference 2014

One year after announcing a strategic partnership, founders of Esri and OSIsoft to deliver their vision of merging space and time.

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 25, 2014 — Jack Dangermond will join J. Patrick Kennedy on stage today at the OSIsoft Users Conference 2014 in San Francisco, California. Mr. Dangermond founded Esri in 1969 and developed ArcGIS®, the gold standard in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) visualization and analytics. Dr. Kennedy founded OSIsoft in 1980 and developed the PI System®, the industry leading infrastructure for real-time data and events. For decades, the philosophy of each company has been focused on getting data to the people who need it, when and where they need it most.

This partnership pushes the envelope of the possible. Analyzing information with spatial context allows users to better understand the past, make real-time decisions, while modeling expected behaviors in the future. Linking these systems through a product offering will open up these capabilities to everyone.

What makes the partnership so strong? Michelle Kuiee, Senior Product Manager at OSIsoft explained that, “Culturally, our companies are aligned from the top down—family owned, privately held, decades long company history—with a completely different customer base, now growing together as a result of our partnership.” Most importantly, it’s about “putting the customer first. Always.”

Excitement has been building as OSIsoft nears its release of the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS. Customers will be able to view real-time and historical sensor data in the context of location through configuration only—without programming.

Dr. Kennedy comments that, “We have always addressed scale – the amount of data that is available is immense. Now, we also focus on context so that the wide ranging information we collect can be put in useful form for decisions. We see no diminishing in the importance of real-time data and context to the decision process.”

“Our partnership is a prime example of what Jack envisioned with the WebGIS Platform,” said Stewart Young, OSIsoft Partner Manager to Esri. “We get to leverage Esri’s open SDK’s and API’s to integrate the PI System with ArcGIS. This is made possible through the simple, open and configurable environment that Esri makes available to developers and partners.”

This partnership exemplifies the Power of Connection. “We are not just connecting to a new business system, we are adding a new dimension for both systems—pushing into space and adding the dimension of time,” said Michael van der Veeken, Senior Software Developer at OSIsoft. “I think we are just at the beginning of what’s possible when combining these two systems.”

Combining sensor and geographic data in real-time will benefit a wide range of scenarios, including the interaction between central monitoring centers and a mobile workforce. Robin Hagemans, Manager of Grid Information & Control at Alliander, Netherlands, looks forward to merging sources of static, transactional, and real-time enterprise data, stating that, “The communication between the control center and the people in the field [will be] much more efficient than it is today.”

When real-time data is viewed on a map, it transforms into data that is truly decision ready. Stay tuned for the release of the PI Integrator of Esri ArcGIS, coming this Summer of 2014.
